Programme : Indonesia 20th-30th August 2007
° Presentation of the concept of Euro-Asia Participative Channel and the projects in progress into this platform. Explanation of method, process and tools.
° Individual presentations or workshops about works and/or processes. The idea is to pass on what knowledge you have to another, so that we all learn new things and use the skills to collaborate and produce a project during the festival in Indonesia.
° The theme : Controller workshop : Creating crazy things to use as a controller ; e.g. Michal’s eggbox sound controller. After these workshops take place we can then use the space to discuss a collective project. The output would be a performance / concert / exhibition held during the festival and future events.
It does not have to be a technical controller, but a design that can control someones actions or habits, sounds or images.
Brainstorm:
Controller Path : guiding someone through a path using voice commands or projecting directions on the floor. If the person takes a wrong step, an alarm could sound. This could be interactive by using a webcam that could analyse the movements, and the result would take the form of an installation.
One of the themes of Cellsbutton#1 is education, so we could develop the controller path so that it would be beneficial in a schooling environment. Using sounds that children recognise so they can guide their way around the path like a game.

Kitchen Never Closed
Because of the different time zones we can find between West Europe to East Asia, members of E-A Channel are having meals at different times during the day. While in a city the sun rises and someone is having a coffee, in another one it is already midday and a big lunch is being prepared.
The net doesn't have an organic way or a natural phenomena to know if the day starts or ends, so we want to use the net to see our meal preparations, everytime that there is activity in someone's kitchen; and build like that a kitchen that is never closed.
We would do it with a webcam placed over the cooker of our kitchens and we would see the real time images in our website.
The kitchen never closed would also be a way to talk about cultural differences in terms of eating habits (nearly always determined by the context, the local characteristics), these kind of things we don't necessarily realize when we establish communication between different local points in the earth through the net.
Right now, Sel, Therese and Ari's kitchen are ready to be observed. Everyone interested in streaming image from their kitchen, please send comments to this proposal.

Implemented Radio on the web
On the final web there will be space for radio audio pieces. ( a database of mp3 files, from our artists) and the possibility to tune in live into exhibitions and performances from our artists.
Web-Presence
The ASEF Grant guarantees us a professional Web presence:
Michael Marianek, Hassan Murod are working on a professional web page, which will be finished for release after our meeting in Indonesia

Infrastructure of absence/presence
This project finds a structure for groupexhibitions with a substantiation on the absence/or presence of Artworks and artists.
The Net creates a new feeling of presence. Once your Skype tells you that somebody else is working on the computer, one is not sitting there alone. The definition of Absence dissolves into a virtual presence. How can this be useful for group exhibition?
Through Server Technology and Net Data exchange artpieces can be projected into real spaces and vice versa. Like this it is possible to arrange one exhibiition in two Spaces and cities.
however we start off with a collaborative Project between Spain and Germany, to find a possibe structure for these exhibitions.
Ariadna Spain: When receiving an email or during an instant conversation in msn or skype, we sometimes feel the physical presence of someone standing in front of the computer, it can be hundreds of kilometers far. Other times, the lack of physical presence makes impossible to get a comunication. I imagine an installation that resumes those feelings and implicates the visitors to a contradiction between virtual and not virtual space; physical absence but with sensitive instuition of it. So, I imagine two cabins made by a plastic translucid material, placed in different spaces. When someone gets inside, his breathing, heart beats, steps, sounds from his movements are captured and send to the other cabin. Also a webcam is capturing the image of them, and outputs a mix of both boxies placed in a virtual space; that means in the outside of the cabins, a projection will show the two bodies with a new background.
Therese Germany: When we all met in Skype, didn´t we all have coffee at one point? This reminds me of an old artist tradition to meet in coffee places to talk about art. I would like to build a cup of coffee, with a spoon inside. The spoon is connected to a rotating motor that is triggered and connected to our emailserver. Meaning once an email arrives, the spoon swirrls the coffee.
Further developemnt would be o analyse the numbers of words or letters and to translate it into the movement of the spoon.
A webcam can send a live picture to our webpage. And the idea can be broadened into a whole coffee table. Does somebody want to be the sugar?
Materials: coffee, motor, PD (or MAX MSP) data transfer, Table, webcam

Hearing Helsinki, June 2006

In June 2006, 20 artists from all over Asia and Europe were selected to particpate in an art camp in Helsinki. The Fourth Asia-Europe Art Camp "Hearing Helsinki", was co-organised by the Media Lab of the University of art and Design and the Asia-Europe Foundation. Since 2004, ASEF has been placing an emphasis on new media art in the series of art camps. This camp focused on the "creative process" rather than the "artistic product", whilst trying to offer a platform for exchange of information, contextualisation of art practices and sharing of inspiration. The programme provided a forum for discussing sonic experiences guided by a team of artists and new media practitioners.
The focus was the observation, analysis and documentation of the shared sonic environment we are surrounded by. The aim, to collaborate with another artist and create a sound piece that reflected the meanings and emotions conveyed through sound under the title "Hearing Helsinki".
Two outputs were produced from this:
1) Presentation of sound work at the ASEM6 conference on 10-11 September 2006;
2) The Euro-Asia Participative Channel
